Description | Energy Finance Analyst – Steel Sector (Asia Pacific – Fixed term Remote) The Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA) is seeking an experienced professional to join our Global Steel Team as a Energy Finance Analyst – Steel Sector. This is a remote position and candidates may be based anywhere in Australia with some Asian locations may be considered for the right candidate. We are looking for professionals with expertise in global steel manufacturing energy finance and industry decarbonisation. The Energy Finance Analyst will focus on data-driven research and financial analysis while taking on additional strategic and leadership responsibilities. The ideal candidate must possess a commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse sustainable and profitable energy economy. In the context of the steel sector this means critically analysing the threats and opportunities faced by steel manufacturers including their supply chain of iron ore coking coal electricity procurement hydrogen and scrap steel. Due to the ongoing need to meet growing steel demand whilst addressing energy and resource security and the need to decarbonise industry. The Analysts will conduct and disseminate economic and financial analysis with the aim to influence policies and investment in the steel sector. IEEFA is a growing NGO/not-for-profit that conducts research and analysis on financial and economic issues related to energy markets trends and policies. Headquartered in the United States IEEFA has a team of analysts and communications personnel located across the globe. Our dynamic teams work collaboratively the across regions and different research areas including the coal gas and electricity markets. IEEFA produces a significant volume of original research as well as ongoing analysis and reports on issues affecting energy industries. Roles and Responsibilities Direct high-impact research projects on the decarbonisation of the steel sector focusing on financial policy and technology developments. Analyse the impact of key inputs—iron ore coking coal electricity hydrogen and scrap steel—on steel production supply chains and emissions. Oversee the development of financial models market analysis and investment trend tracking to support data-driven insights. Assess emerging low-emission technologies and policy frameworks identifying implications for industry competitiveness and transition. Produce review and finalise research reports policy submissions and press releases that demonstrate analytical rigour and sector expertise. Represent IEEFA as a subject matter expert through public commentary media engagement and participation in policy discussions. Build and maintain strategic relationships with industry leaders investors regulators government bodies and think tanks to enhance research impact. Guide and mentor junior analysts fostering professional growth and strengthening internal research capabilities. Track financial performance company announcements market shifts and energy news to inform research priorities. Collaborate across teams and contribute to IEEFA’s strategic direction organisational learning and overall research excellence. Required Qualifications 7+ years of experience including in strategic finance investment analysis or industry research. Bachelor's or Master’s degree in finance economics engineering or relevant experience. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and engage with senior stakeholders. Strong understanding of energy transition decarbonisation strategies and investment risks in the steel sector. Strong analytical financial modelling and quantitative skills. Excellent writing and communication skills demonstrated through reports and publications. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Box and ClickUp (or equivalents). Self-motivated and able to work independently in a remote environment. Commitment to IEEFA’s mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse sustainable and profitable energy economy. Compensation and Benefits 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension. The remuneration range for senior analyst is AUD 165708 to $200004 base plus super for locations in Australia. Pay rates are based on education skill experience level and internal equity. Work Schedule Full-time 5 days per week. IEEFA is an international organization so some late evening early morning and weekend work will be required due to time zone differences and for on-site event coordination. Physical Demand and Work Environment. Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion eyestrain back and neck strain.
