| Description | About the Role We are looking for an experienced COBOL Developer to support mission-critical legacy systems at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. You’ll maintain and modernize mainframe applications that power VA’s financial management human capital and other corporate systems—helping ensure reliable operations while supporting DevSecOps and Agile modernization efforts. What You’ll Do Maintain and enhance COBOL-based mainframe applications (CICS JCL DB2 VSAM). Develop test and troubleshoot COBOL programs for daily transaction processing. Support DevSecOps pipelines including builds automated testing and secure deployments. Create/update system documentation diagrams and audit/compliance artifacts. Collaborate with Agile teams product managers and engineers to deliver high-quality solutions. Assist with data migration and modernization initiatives. Ability to obtain Public Trust or VA suitability clearance. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of COBOL development experience with mainframe systems. Strong knowledge of CICS JCL DB2 and batch/online processing. Experience working in Agile or Lean-Agile environments. Familiarity with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines. Strong documentation and collaboration skills. Nice to Have: Federal or VA system experience (financial payroll HR or acquisition systems). Experience with COBOL-to-modernization efforts. Compensation: The salary is budgeted at $120000-$130000 annually plus benefits.
