We are a fully remote accounting firm seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll & Sales Tax Specialist to join our team. In this role you will manage payroll processing for multiple clients ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations and handle sales tax filings across various jurisdictions. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment is confident navigating multi-state payroll and sales tax rules and enjoys working with clients to provide accurate timely service. What You’ll Do Process payroll for clients across multiple states ensuring accuracy and compliance with tax laws. File and remit payroll tax returns and payments on a timely basis. Manage sales tax filings payments and compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Serve as the point of contact for client payroll and sales tax inquiries providing clear guidance and support. Reconcile payroll and tax reports to ensure accuracy. Assist with onboarding new payroll clients including system setup and employee data entry. Monitor federal state and local compliance changes and ensure clients remain in good standing. Collaborate with internal teams to maintain accurate records and streamline processes. Qualifications 3+ years of experience in payroll administration and/or sales tax compliance (public accounting or multi-client environment a plus). Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll laws wage and hour rules and tax regulations. Experience filing multi-state sales tax returns and navigating different jurisdictions. Proficiency with payroll software (e.g. ADP Gusto Paychex QuickBooks Payroll or similar). Proficiency with sales tax software and platforms (e.g. Avalara TaxJar Vertex state e-filing portals or similar). Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex payroll/tax issues to clients. Ability to work independently in a remote environment and manage multiple deadlines. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) or other payroll/tax certifications a plus. Job Description This role is responsible for payroll processing overseeing general accounting operations managing financial records and ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves processing payroll performing account reconciliations and supporting month-end and year-end close processes. The Accountant / Payroll Specialist will also assist in audits improve internal controls and provide detailed analysis of financial data to aid in decision-making. This position is critical in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial operations. This position is remote but must be local to Central Florida for weekly meetings. Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks General Ledger Accounting: Maintain and oversee the general ledger to ensure accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Prepare journal entries for payroll benefits depreciation prepaids and accruals. Perform monthly quarterly and annual account reconciliations including bank and balance sheet accounts. Oversee company budgeting. Payroll: Review and validate employee timesheets. Process weekly payroll via ADP Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation by company policy and audit requirements.
